Centrally located in a popular beach holiday spot, this apartment style home was designed for a busy professional couple and their 18-year-old son. Having a background working on high end residential homes raised the bar on the design brief.
The central island
Island curves have been used to create flow around the open plan living area while adding a soft, organic influence into the home. Natural stone (3 x consecutive slabs) with a reasonably consistent pattern was needed to achieve this look. The original selection of 20mm thick Matarazzo arriving damaged after being leathered with limited time/supply due to COVID. Luckily, we were able to source 30mm Matarazzo stone already in a leathered finish – totally different look to the original selection - Extra floor joists were added below the island (approx. island weight 1000kg)
The integrated ovens and a bar are concealed behind Concepta pocket door fittings – reducing the visual length of the rear elevation, allowing the connection of materials to adjoining walls and making a feature of the natural stone island and splash back.
A more functional porcelain top has been used for the functional spaces (sink and hob) made from the same stone as the doors and drawer fronts.
The scullery is concealed also when not in use and the decision was made to have the integrated fridges side by side in a central location while keeping the island in line with the splash back so this meant the fridges needed to be in the scullery too.
